Whats the difference between broadband and 56k modem?
I’m buying a laptop but I need a fast internet for job communication. I know broadband is supposed to be fast, but is a 56k modem fast too? I have a 56k modem in this pc I use at home on dial up, but I when I connect it says 19.2kbps, it never gets higher. If a laptop comes with a 56k modem does that mean It will be double time than dial up at home?

56k is the maximum speed that modem can achieve. In reality, the best dial up tops out around 53K or so.
At home you also have a 56K modem. 19.2 is just the fastest your connection can maintain.
Broadband is an entirely different type of connection than dial up. It is much much faster, and uses different types of modems to connect. Any modern laptop will have an ethernet adapter whcih can be plugged intot he broadband modem provided by your ISP, and also a WiFi adapter to connect to wireless networks.
You will probably get a 19.2kbps connection with your new computer also via dialup. With broad band via cable you will be about 20-100 times faster.
The difference will be noticeable but not satisfactory !!
for uniform , precise and convenient work flow , you must rely on broadband .
in broadband you can download a file up to 20 time faster than dialup !!
you should be connecting faster than 19.2kbps with a 56k modem.
right click ‘my computer’ select the hardware tab, then select device manager.
Under ports, select the com (serial) port that corresponds with your modem. right click and select properties. (you can also do this for all of your com ports if you don’t know which is for your modem)
there should be a tab for com port settings. Make sure the speed of your com port is set to 115200.
If the speed of your com port is set low, then it limits what your modem can connect at.
A 56k modem is not fast at all since it is dialup only. 56kbps refers to the download speed and is the maximum that that modem can handle but what you actually get is usually less. Upload speeds are even slower with a dialup modem hence your 19.2kbps. Your best bet is to get high speed or broadband if you need faster speeds for your job. High speed prices vary but mine is around $34.95 per month. If you must use 56k modems look for a 56kFlex modem or an 56k x2 which will give slightly better results but I would definitely switch to the broadband. For me dialup would be a last resort.
