What's the best e-commerce platform/service provider out there?
Hi, I’m thinking of selling my store’s merchandise online, but I’m not going to do it on e-bay or anywhere like that. I’m building my own website, or rather will have someone build it. But I’m clueless as to where to start, I know I need an e-commerce platform, but where do I get a really good one; with full features and a small price tag?
And should I entrust everything to a single company to handle (web design/ graphics/ hosting etc.) in addition to the e-com system, or should I just hire different companies for each task? Please give any kind of tips that you think will be helpful, I would really appreciate it.
Thanks!
Thanks for your answers, I will look into them.
However, I still feel I haven’t found an answer. I tried making a list and comparing prices and features, but I spent days doing that, and still didn’t come any closer to making a decision. That is why I need someone to tell me; which are the to most successful, most widely used systems? I’m looking for the safe bet, well-known companies, the Gmail-Yahoo-Hotmail of the e-commerce world.
Please do not advertise your own business, I need an honest, neutral answer
E-Commerce Web Hosting Templates. What hosting sites can easily be reskinned by graphic designers? see details?
I am a web designer but I’ve never developed e-commerce with shopping carts and paypal. I’d like a template for my personal business. Yahoo Business and Google are too generic. I am opening an online fashion store and I need a website that can host a good amount of pictures (about 5) per item. I need shopping carts and I need to use paypal. I’ll be updating regularly and adding more merchandise on a regular basis. I am a designer and would like to incorporate my own design as much as possible (aka – reskin) the site as much as possible. Does anyone have a suggestion or know of any good templates or host sites? Thank you.

also – if it can be programmed to CSS code
Website and E-Commerce site?
I’m confused about the two. I know to sell something you need an e-commerce site, but can you "decorate" it like you would a website? Or can you add the e-commerce site to the already designed website? I’m using yahoo merchant for my store but I hate that the design option for the store is so limited compared to the actual website. Can they be combined or how does that work???
Easy & manageable e-commerce web hosting?
I know a person who bought an e-commerce store that is currently hosted on aol’s free webspace (not ideal). She doesn’t know much about html, but is looking for a different web host. She uses Volusion for a different site right now but doesn’t really like it or the high price, so she is thinking of using Yahoo…can anyone offer any pros/cons to Yahoo, as well as any other personal experience with other hosting sites for the web illiterate? Thanks!

What templates are available for small e-commerce stores?
In addition to Yahoo Stores, what are the primary and/or recommended "web store in a box" solutions? This would be for someone who needs to create and maintain their own e-commerce solution but doesn’t know much more than basic html coding.
I am so sorry that I used the word "templates" in the heading, which I cannot change now. I am looking for out of the box, easy to use packages for e-commerce. So far, I only have Yahoo Stores and Online Stores, and would like one more idea. I am just helping a friend who is not interested in open source software or hiring a programmer. Thanks.
E-commerce: What are some good and reliable shopping carts that can be integrated into my web-store?
I am building a store on a hosted server. I am building all of the informational things myself, but I’m not really experienced enough to be able to design a reliable shopping cart system.
What are some good and reliable shopping carts that I can integrate into my site? What are your personal preferences?
BTW, I tried doing it through Yahoo, and hated Yahoo, so I’m doing it (other than the shopping cart) from the ground up this time.
Thanks!
Where can I go on the web to get answers about building websites, particularly e-commerce?
I want to ask how I can make a "members only area" which will display the content to people who have paid memberships and I want to figure out how to make it impossible for them to get in once the membership expires.
I am not getting good answers from Yahoo answers, on this particular question.
What are the best e-commerce hosting companies?
I have a small company looking to take a php site to a different host. Our current host is not cheap and not expensive and is down far too much to be suitable for running an online store. The problem is that all hosting companies that I see all guarantee 99.6% uptime, but when I try to research them online, there is very little information and I know that what they say cant be true because our current host says the same thing. Currently I’m looking towards HostMonster, Hostway, StartLogic, Yahoo for e-commerce, AT&T but I would appreciate some insight as I feel I may just be changing one bad host for another. Answers and advice welcome!
