Where I am-
I have decided to program the site myself.
I bought a domain from godaddy.com
I bought dreamweaver.
I decided to use paypal as my shopping cart.

My Problem
Is there any good e-books or blogs or books about programming an e-commerce site?
I’m a college student in 30,000 dollars debt, so any advice will be greatly appreciated.

I have the option of using one of the following e-commerce software:
Zen Cart
osCommerce
CubeChart
Agora Shopping

I would like to know which one of these are the best for selling computer hardware off the internet?

I need a website where I can sell my customized/personalized gift baskets. I don’t want to sell on Ebay. I want something more classy and sophisticated. I need secure shopping for my customers, yet I want a site I can build for free or atleast really cheap. I have no website developing experience or knowledge so please explain all answers as clearly as possible.

I need step by step instructions on how to go about getting started.

I also need a web host, domain name site and I need a host that has great server service with minimum down time. Thanks.

I’m currently a student studying a IT course I am good at making html and php personal sites however I have been asked to create an e-commerce site, I can create the standard look of the site however how would I go about creating buyable items payable by multiple payments methods (not only paypal) with basket feature including user accounts?

A website which will have search capabilties and finnacial transaction will be only subscription.
I know i was asking things very broad and i got some good answers. Now i get into specifics..
What kind of IT system i require to support my website with following detials
1. I would like to own my servers and system and so where can i get it or any cost effective strategy initally untill i get a good business
2. What kind of server shoudl be good to support an online website where atleast at point of time there can be 10000 users searching
3. If i need to give atleast 20 mb space per registered user(initially the user base can be 10000)
4. What kind of technical skills do i need to design a solid service oreiented architecure and advanced web based features for the website
5. It will not be a shopping site
6. How can i get in touch with the right people

just wondering if anyone can suggest a good site to get a domain and web host?

I’m trying to open an online store so it will need SSL and a shopping card and abilitty to accept credit cards.

I was using globat but it was way too complicated for me to build with the php and ftp…so i will need a better one that is a little more easier to build.
