How many server side resoures I'd need to build an e-commerce website of over 200,000 visits/day?
I have an assignment to make a project for capacity of handling over 200,000 visits per day. Its an e-commerce project built on .net technology, SQL server and ofcourse windows latest servers.
Also if you can recommend some good dataware house for reliable and economic hosting. Any help in this regard will be appreciated.

What are the steps needed to establish a e-commerce website with financial transactions?
A website which will have search capabilties and finnacial transaction will be only subscription.
I know i was asking things very broad and i got some good answers. Now i get into specifics..
What kind of IT system i require to support my website with following detials
1. I would like to own my servers and system and so where can i get it or any cost effective strategy initally untill i get a good business
2. What kind of server shoudl be good to support an online website where atleast at point of time there can be 10000 users searching
3. If i need to give atleast 20 mb space per registered user(initially the user base can be 10000)
4. What kind of technical skills do i need to design a solid service oreiented architecure and advanced web based features for the website
5. It will not be a shopping site
6. How can i get in touch with the right people
How do pay-per-click sites keep track of how many times an ad was clicked?
Do they link back to their own site, increment a counter in the db? (This seems inefficient)
Do they use some kind of redirection servers? and process web server logs afterwards?
I was hoping to get some of the technical details of how this works…

what art most important features to look for in a web hosting service?
I am new at web design, and in the process of trying to find a good web hosting service. I plan on having lots of videos and photos on my sites, and was wondering what kind of features are the most important for me to be looking for when searching for a web host. Are some servers faster than others? If so, which are the fastest? And is it better to go with a windows or linux server? Are there any other important features that I need to look for? Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
