Actually, CMS systems, such as Drupal, have e-commerce modules. In fact, there is also a new one being developed that looks promising, http://www.ubercart.org/compare_ubercart_ecommerce. As for RoR, a nice example lives here: http://www.wineq.com/. Utlimately, either is useable – I am just looking for information perhaps from someone who has experience with both or some concrete advantages I could look at and consider.
