PLZ HELP; creating an e-commerce site? ran into one problem ):?

I’m wanting to use dream weaver to create an e-commerce clothing line website. just one question?

any good books on creating an e-commerce site?
– i want to find a book that shows how to input the drop down window with the sizes and quantity as well as allowing my users to use pay pal to pay.

IF its got the following then its a plus but it doesn’t have to.
-creating a graphic intro page with stuff moving around and asking what country your from.
-I’d like to integrate a blog onto the site, and have multiple sections like about the store, contact us etc.
-music playing with a cool looking bar on the screen

Basically I’m going for a site much like these……..
www.diesel.com
www.guess.com
eventually……

I’m in 45 thousand dollars of debt from college and I’m going to find a way out of it. I’ll work all day every day this summer if I have to…….

Any response will be greatly appreciated!!!
amazing help so far guys, I’m on my way over to barns and noble right now……. I’d still love to receive more comments

If you are in debt you may register at freelance website like http://getafreelnacer.com and start bidding for all projects posted there. You can find step by step guide on how to create a website at website like http://oktutorial.com/webdesign.htm .

    BTW:
    No music
    No intro pages

    These will seriously repel visitors.

Make sure you get a host that supports MySQL, PHP, SSL, https and everything else you need.
You will also need to buy a certificate for your website from someone like Comodo to guarantee its authenticity and security.

Dreamweaver only does half of an ecommerce site. You will need to have something actually doing the work on the server. You will need to research getting some free scripts in Perl or PHP or whatever language because they are difficult to write. A poorly written script is an invitation for hackers. Hunt around for a free ecommerce package.

What Peter says is spot on. Dreamweaver is great for presentation (although from a coders point of view it adds a lot of useless crap), but does nothing when it comes to server/database interaction.

Unfortunately, you will need to either code these pages yourself using some server side scripting to create things like accounts and shopping carts. You could also look into premade templated solutions, or hosts that are geared towards what you want. Either way, there will be some customization work. Dreamweaver alone will not do it.

From scratch you would need at the least a book on databases, one on server side scripting language of your choice, and some knowledge of SQL/MySQL, and security.

If you are dead set on doing it yourself then you need to head to a bookshop and pick up a few books. Just browse through and find an approach you like. Any of the major publishers will be pretty much as good as another depending on your learning style.

and please….if someone comes to your site they want to see your site, an intro page is superfluous and a turnoff. Many of your visitors will also have their own music or tv programs playing, so music on a web site just gets many people to leave

You need a web hosting service which supports online payments like, Master Card, Visa & Pay Pal. It is very important that your service to be uptime. It means that you can access your account whenever you want to update your web pages, and your visitors can view your website whenever they input your website address.
