How much free space is needed to keep a desktop computer running smoothly?
My computer has 14% free space which is about 21.98 GB and some programs such as AOL 9.0 will not start up. My computer is an E Machine which is from 2002 that runs on Windows XP.

Ok it should run fine as right now my comp has 12% free space and runs supa fast. I would suggest a defrag and a disk cleanup. also download revo uninstaller and uninstall al the crapware your pc came with.
You do want to free up some space eventually though. Im waiting to but an external 500gb hard drive for like 40 bucks. you should invest in one.
