How can I validate if my former web development company is redirecting traffic from my website?
When I type my URL in the search bar, I go directly to my website. However, when I typed my website URL into a Yahoo Answers question, it was re-directed to my former web developer site. Is it possible there is some type of "hidden" redirect?

The most likely issue here is DNS update. When you change from one web host to another you update the details associated with your domain name. One of the updates is the ‘Nameserver’. This is the name or IP address that your host will have given you, which relates to their hosting servers.
When you update your domain name details, the updates are propagated to the DNS servers (which are like indexing systems) around the world. This can take up to 72 hours to complete, as the systems update at different times. The DNS server that your computer will use to find the content of a domain name will vary – even in the same browsing session. So for instance during that first three days, some times you would see your site on the new host and some times your would be redirected to the old host.
Because your old host no longer has your account active, what happens is you are directed to their home page, or a ‘holding’ page which states that the account is no longer active. This is simply because your computer has used a DNS server with the old details on it.
You old host has no control over where traffic is directed once you have changed your Nameserver details. If you would like any more specific details, feel free to e-mail me.
