HTML is the the underlying language of all webpages. XHTML is a stricter version of HTML and is the web standard now. CSS is a way to make all of your web pages the same style and design (like a blue background, and all size 12 font is red, etc.) Javascript is a simple way to add some more snazz to your website. So go in this order:

    -html
    -xhtml
    -css
    -javascript

after that, you should probably go to:
    -dhtml
    -ajax
    -Flash +Actionscript
-php + database (Oracle, MySQL, SQL, etc.)

These all add more snazz to your website, but are not necessary. However, many people use them and is thus recommended.

Check out the below website for some tutorials.

You should start by learning HTML and CSS. These are just layout languages, but will allow you to start making webpages. You can learn them at:

    C++ or Visual Basic

  • Mike S says:

HTML is the basic language to learn, but you should also learn CSS.

    Additionally you could learn:
    -PHP
    -AJAX
    -JavaScript

PHP can help you with content management and database integration, while AJAX and JavaScript will help improve the look of a regular HTML/CSS website, plus offer additional functionality.

NOT HTML, but rather xhtml and css (there is a difference). And if you know the basics of C, I would highly recommened learning ASP.NET. You can use C# which is very similar to C for all the programming aspects.

Then if you want to write Windows applications the transition is very easy from ASP.NET to C#.NET… from a programming standpoint it’s almost the same.

Ajax is ridiculously easy with ASP.NET 3.5 too. And Visual Web Developer is a free download, no trial period.

I agree with Mark B on this subject. HTML is a bad way to go if you are trying to build a web site. I will agree that HTML is a good source to know before building on a higher level like ASP.NET or Web Development 2005, both located on the visual studio 2005, 2008 version for free at http://www.microsoft.com.

But to answer you’re question if you are a beginner on developing web pages, I will start with HTML basic. which you can find on dream-weaver software.

If you are into coding, then go with html first, it’s the first must know when you want to create a website, then CSS to make your work faster especially when you are dealing with website that has lots of page and it can add more style to your website, then go with javascipt. If you are not much of a coder type then use Dreamweaver, you’ll just do the design and dreamweaver will provide you the coding, with dreamweaver you can come up with CSS and javascipt with a few clicks, but it is still recommendable to learn html first, html isn’t hard to learn, you can learn it in few days.
